Trying to Create a Baby Genius...
The other day as Brad and I were hanging out with Aiden - our new favorite thing to do- I realized how silly I sounded saying, " HI!" to him ( Aiden)... What a dumb thing to say to a baby over and over. What's he going to learn from THAT? I don't know why, but I'm obsessing these days about what he should be exposed to for learning and development's sake. ( Feel free to roll your eyes.) So, just for fun we started introducing other words to him, to expand his vocabularic horizons. Things like "rendezvous" ( one of my favorites...) and "bourgeoisie" ( Brad came up with that one). I just about croaked with laughter. What odd things to be cooing to a baby. Oh dear. Given the parents he ended up with, this child is doomed to a life of weirdness.

Those first babies make US a little weird! I remember our first experiences with Melody. We thought (and rightfully so) that she was "THE MOST" everything a baby could be! She was practically perfect!
And so is your Aiden! Because he is yours! Have tons of fun raising him...it's one of the best parts of life!
p.s. wish you could have shared that pasta meal with us...it sure was memorable!
Lucky Aiden! He's going to be so smart when he learns to talk :)
You should think about introducing amiable, the best adjective ever. And onomatopoeia. I've always like that one.
If "bourgeoisie" is on the list, surely you must add "proletariat." And them "Marxism-Leninism," "revolution," etc.
It seems to me you're basically teaching him French.
Which would make him a baby genius!
If Arthur can learn French so can Aiden:)) I'm not kidding-he has lessons in his little nursery.
Soj and KK- you're RIGHT! It wasn't a conscious thing - because neither of us really know how to speak any French at all - but most of the things we were saying were French in origin. I remember we even said stuff like "Bon Voyage" and "Bon Mot" etc.... I think it's just because French is so fun sounding...I remember in my High School Music History class, my favorite composer was Binchois just because it was fun to say his name: BinSHWAAAAA...
You would have loved my music history classes. We got great names like Buxtehude (Boox-teh-HUUUUduh), and of course Beethoven when mispronounced (Bee-thhh-ah-ven) is amazingly fun. There are other wonderfully fun names, but I can't think of them right now. Buxtehude is pretty much the best. :)
Your son is going to be very fun to talk with because there's nothing cuter than a little tiny person using big words.
I think it's totally acceptable, so long as you use the words in the right context.
Context would be a good word to try.
philip thinks the best way to introduce aiden to literacy is for him to attend his and your sessions together!!
