The thing that Witches fly on

Every married couple disagrees on things.

Brad and I have always differed on the pronunciation of the word "Broom." He says it as if it were spelled "brum." I say it, " brewm" - the correct way, of course. We have ridiculed each other for years in this matter. ( Brad disagrees with me on this matter, too. I quote: " I have not ridiculed you!" Okay. I guess it was just me then. . . doing the whole ridiculing thing. Huh. And it wasn't really...ridicule. How is it that I'M writing this and it's ending up putting me in a bad light?! It was more like gentle ribbing. ) But what is even funnier: he uses it as a verb. As in, " I need to brum off the driveway." Is this not altogether hilarious, worthy of derision and yet the very essence of cuteness, all in one?

Today he told me that all the people at work rag on him for this strange pronunciation of his. I feel so validated.

I'm off to go brewm the kitchen.

You are totally valid in your laughing-with-you sort of ridicule. I mean, come on, who says brum? :P

I really shouldn't make fun, because for some reason I'm incapable of saying "rural." I refuse to say "ruuhl" like I hear so often around here, and I think I'm saying it just fine, but for some reason when ever I say "rural route" everyone points and laughs (in a with-you sort of way I'm sure) and says something about "ruuhl." Hm. It's hard being the only correct person in Kansas. :)

Harhar! That's like Keith's "skulleton" pronunciation...
Also, don't the people at Brad's work make fun of all his word pronunciations...being in the south and all?

I must admit that I, too, say "brum." But, the first time I heard Brad use it as a verb I thought he was kidding and laughed at him.

I remember Brad making fun of his mom for pronouncing milk as "mulk" or something like that. I guess he picked up his own little Mass/Cal/NH accent!

KK! Brad says the SAME thing to me about how I say room! There is no end of fun to this pronunciation game...I guess we all have our own little shibboleths...

Kristi, Yes, I think the official Brad/Penny "Mom line" is, "Drink your melk, chuldren..." or something like that...

Yup- drink your melk, chuldren.... I have endured years of ribbing over those two words. Sigh. It must be the combo Mass/CA accent that did it for me, with a little VA put into the mix.

I think using broom as a verb is the worst part of this whole discussion.

Now tell the one about how you fight about my name. Cregg or CrAIg?

I've always said Cregg.

Wow, guess you guys fight about words a lot.

oh, about the pix, yeah, I'd forgotten it was him I'd done that to :-) Probably NOT the best for avatar quality, eh?

crEGG! We don't fight! We gently rib. Okay, we hotly dispute. But not fight! That is a BAD WORD.

Haha!

See? I can "gently rib," too!
