Rite of Passage

Yesterday we got a lawn mower. Brad said that in getting this John Deere push mower, he feels he has finally come of age. Getting married didn't do it; buying a house didn't do it. But buying a lawn mower has catapulted him into adulthood at last. Strangely, it makes total sense to me. But now I'm wondering what will do the same thing for me.

The lawn looks great now, by the way- a veritable thing of beauty. Brad did a great job mowing it. You should come see it.

Hey- the house across the street from us is for sale. Anyone interested? It's brick, two story, has a two car garage...AND...the ultimate selling point...It has a nice view of our beautiful front lawn!

We got one of those manual mowers when we moved out here since our lawn is so small and we don't have a shed to store it in...works good though and it's quiet!

Wait...You mean- the Uncle Arthur's Bedtime Stories kind- the kind run on manpower alone?

When we got our house we also got a new mower. It was so exciting! But now, a couple years later, we give the neighbors mean looks when they mow. It makes our yard look scraggly and we have to mow to keep up! But there is something about a freshly mowed yard that heals the soul. :) Congratulations on turning the next page in the book of life!

We need a new mower too because we bought a reel mower (the push kind, with no motor) a few years ago and I think my hubby is finally done with that whole experience. It's a lot more manual labor and sometimes he has to go over one spot several times to get it to cut the thickest grass. I love how quiet it is, but with a big yard, it's just not practical.

Wish we could drop by and see it! LOL! :-)

Me n' 'Lanche would rather be off ridin' the range far from home than get stuck tryin' to shove one o' them thar noisy grass cutters... ...what's wrong with usin' a sythe---they're a heap more quiet like!

Congrats on the mower! And, as I write this, the sound of our very own mower can be heard. Yup, we are now the proud owner of a mower! And with the help of a cheerful teenage lad, our grass is being mowed! Yeah!

Lawnmowers are from the pit. Yards of grass that one feels compelled to keep neat so as to "keep up" with the neighbors, are from the pit.

[as you can tell, I LOVE yardwork]

Mmmm...I love the smell of new-mown grass! WHY are you all making me homesick?

(And no, I never had to mow much, due to the presence of aforementioned cheerful teenage lad and others at my house. Sorry to rub it in, folks).

Hmmmm....the thing that makes one feel grown-up. Mysterious and fascinating subject. I think paying gas bills on the phone helped do it for me. But then, there are the days when I'm sure I'm still 17...or 4!
