Matters to Question and Ponder

I was just thinking about the phrase, " cooling off." Why off? Where did that come from? Why not, " cooling on" or "cooling up"? I mean, when you think about it, it sounds as if the cooling is receding, and that you're actually getting hotter, which is the exact opposite of what it really means. ( I can understand 'cooling down' because of temperature being measured in asending/descending numbers...so it's really just 'cooling off' I have the issue with, not 'cooling down.') It sounds weird, but it actually makes more sense to say, " I'm going to go jump in the lake to cool on." I challenge you all, my readers, to examine our sayings, our language, our vernacular...and take on the things that don't make sense. And dissect them. And change them.

And not just our sayings, friends. What about our WHOLE WORLD VIEW? Okay- not our values...but the way we look at a map. Our Geographic World View, to be precise. Who's to say that when we look at a map or globe, North America should be on the left and Europe on the right...? Why not the other way around? And why must the Northern Hemisphere be northern? Does God always look at the world with the North Pole on top? Why shouldn't Anarctica be at the top, and Greenland at the bottom? I am going to lobby someone or something to make globes that are free floating- perhaps rotating within another clear ball...with letters that somehow float around so that they stay on the continent but move so that no matter which way you look at the globe, you can read the names. I was going to say- ' no matter which way you look at the globe- upside or down..." but then I realized, that to use the words "upside" or "down" would be imposing my own pre-suppositions about what up or down should really be...Okay...Yes, I have really gone off the deep end...but have I made you think? Do you see what I am getting at? Is there something that I'm missing? Is there some Biblical, moral or logical principle that I'm flouting by thinking this way? Maybe it's so obvious that I missed it.

I'm sitting here waiting for my tomato plant to produce some fun. So far, it's doing nothing but growing like a weed.

Holy Canoly Claire! Slow down with your blogging!!!! I feel like I'm drinking from a fire hydrant :) I'm just kidding. Keep at it.

As for the reasons the globe is the way it is. Well, it is because America is the most important right now, so everything revolves around us. That is my indepth, analytical, scientifically tested theory. Plus, cold milk tastes good with cookies...

We just painted a mural with Eaurope left, Asia center and the Americas right. It really was an attempt to less ethnocentric. Sadly, it was difficult to find a map for our use, we had to alter one for projecting.
Have a grea Week,

Yikes, your craziness is contagious or maybe it's just genetic...

I know you said your tomato is growing like a weed, but are you sure you're not just growing weed? It would explain this last blog. Just kidding, though I do tend to find myself agreeing with Ryu.

Claire's on weed? Whoa!!! Does Neil know about this? What about Bradley? Don't worry Claire, I shall be praying for you til this vile addiction is broken, ONCE AND FOR ALL!!!!!

On a lighter note, I saw you and one of your "charges" today walking down the sidewalk, we[paul and i] honked and tried to wave...

Cooling down, heating up. I was looking at a thermometer and was struck by inspiration, like a bolt out of Heaven. The goopy stuff goes down when it gets colder, hence the expression...

Yes, I heard a honk, looked up, saw the Sandford Surveying van and Paul waving wildly out the window...I didn't realize it was you driving. That was a bizarre, cheering, and totally surreal experience. Pass on my regards to the Silvernail!
