I am a really slow learner. Every Friday, some subconscious part of me thinks that the weekend is here forever. And then I get all mad and disillusioned on Sunday evening. What? Life goes ON beyond the weekend? But for now...it's Friday night. Blissful peace is all there is.
As soon as I got to work this morning, I knew something was off. Usually, Matt is sitting in the upstairs hallway after having given the first wake-up call to the girls. He wasn't there; I found him in the kitchen...and he told me a strange story. Apparently, last night, after all the girls had gone to bed, one of the girls was seen standing at the bathroom mirror for a long while. When approached by staff, the resident turned, and charged towards her, emitting a looooong, bloodcurdling scream. Needless to say, all the girls awoke and were terrified out of their wits. Most of them didn't get back to sleep until 3:00 a.m. It was determined that the resident was sleepwalking and had been startled when approached. She slept on the couch in the living-room for the rest of the night. Poor thing. The rest of the girls are pretty spooked by her. ( So anyway- we let the girls sleep in for another hour. That was fine by me.)
I didn't have any pockets today. And that is an inconvenience in my line of work. Staff are supposed to carry little walkie-talkie radios around so that we can communicate with each other when we're separated through the house or between the classroom and house. So pockets are handy if you don't want to lose your radio in the melee of the day. My co-worker, Donna, who is the most artsiest, craftiest woman I have ever met, CROCHETED me a little radio carrying purse OUT OF THE BLUE this morning. Must have taken her about 10 minutes. I was flabbergasted. It even went with my outfit. I'm going to try to get a picture of it and post it up here.

And to think that I had delusions of weirdness. Sleep screaming, many times, sleep running, not yet. Here's hoping though. The worst part is you never remember anything about what happened or what you were dreaming about.
Man, personalized radio bags? How do you rate?
brzzzt "breaker, breaker, this is BigBox 'Oluv, over" brzzt...
Some of us can remember what happened... I distinctly remember waking up in the night(after having been reading the Pendragon series), heavy with the responsibility of the mission ahead. I hurried over to Gretchen's room (yes, this was several years ago). "Gretchen, get up! The king needs us! We have to go!" Gretchen, somewhat like the girls of the Girls' Shelter, was alarmed. But I, who knew the dire straits before us, wondered why she kept insisting that I was asleep and should go back to bed! Gradually consciousness returned, and I did indeed go back to sleep for more happy dreams about saving the kingdom.
This reminds me of when Karena screamed in her sleep, " Caday! Caday!" after being in a meeting in which someone was talking about how they used this old sheep-herding call to bring the animals back to the barn...I'm sure there was some spiritual analogy to it...
Filled with the Spirit, perhaps? :)
One of the best things about sleeping in a dorm is that other are always more than willing to let you know what you were doing the night before. As soon as they asked, 'how did you sleep last night?' I knew something had happened.
